Overview and Assessments

Course Description:

Using the United Nation’s framework of sustainable development goals, students will be able to define a range of current issues that are negatively impacting the world today, and then identify positive actions that can be taken to reduce or eliminate harmful effects.  Students will gain a deeper understanding of options for dealing with waste materials, being responsible consumers, using natural resources wisely, and planning for the future.

Format:

The course is designed to be delivered in a communicative, student-centered manner where the instructor acts as facilitator while students take on responsibility for their own learning.

Course Goals/Outcomes:

  • Students will acquire increased proficiency in each of the four core areas (speaking, listening, reading and writing) of English.
  • Students will expand their vocabulary as they explore a range of topics associated with sustainability.
  • Students will work to improve their fluency and accuracy in both written and oral communication.
  • Students will acquire information that will help them to be responsible stewards of the planet.
